Background
Ann graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Health Science in Musculoskeletal Therapy (Myotherapy) after completing a Diploma of Remedial Massage in 2009.
Since graduating Ann has worked with a broad range of clients including Olympians, triathletes, marathon runners, and those with conditions such as Parkinson's and Multiple Sclerosis.
The majority of her clients, though, are people like her, doing their best to stay fit and healthy but occasionally needing help with an injury or a painful neck or hip that just won't 'come good'.
Having suffered a serious back injury in 2003 which caused immense pain and neuromuscular weakness, Ann is aware of how debilitating physical conditions can be and will work with you to regain strength, functional movement, and confidence in your body.
Myotherapy
Myotherapy is non-invasive, evidence based and an effective treatment of acute or persisting conditions.
As well as being a preventative treatment to keep you well.
Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal pain.
Myotherapy builds from a base of remedial massage but is a stand alone qualification with an emphasis on anatomy and functional anatomy. It is either a 3 year Bachelor of Health Science degree or an Advanced Diploma. Myotherapists are known for their strong focus on, and excellent use of, hands-on techniques to resolve pain, release muscle tension and improve your mobility. Ann uses a variety of manual therapy techniques during treatment such as massage, joint mobilisation, dry needling, trigger point therapy, myofascial cupping and rehabilitative exercise.
So what will Ann actually do?
Myotherapists work with our clients, not on them. Ann will assess your needs through muscle, joint and neural testing to identify the cause of your pain or concern. Ann will then go on to utilise those hands-on techniques to address your presenting condition for pain relief and better movement. Finally, she will give you information on your individual needs, so that you are able to take control. A myotherapy appointment addresses your concerns and is not a full body massage.
Myotherapy assists clients with issues such as:
Back, neck & shoulder pain
Headaches
Rotator cuff problems
Occupational injuries
Lower back pain
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and jaw pain
Neurological conditions (pins and needles, etc)
Stiffness and soreness
Chronic pain
